GroceryLens

Spend Less. Waste Less.

Grocery money doesn't vanish. It drips.A bag of spinach that turned. Bread bought twice. Milk quietly creeping past what you usually pay. Nobody notices a drip — everybody notices a meter. GroceryLens is the meter for your grocery spend, built from your own receipts, on your own iPhone. It doesn't turn the taps off, it shows you where the water's going. And a household that can see the leak fixes it themselves.Every receipt you scan is the flow the meter reads — which is why the picture keeps sharpening the longer you use it.

know where every grocery dollar goes

GroceryLens tells you what you pay, not what someone else pays. Scan a receipt and it reads every line item, turning your weekly shop into budgets, a live pantry, and straight answers about your own spending — your patterns, your numbers, read on your iPhone, stored in your iCloud.

Set a weekly cap on the categories that get away from you — produce, snacks, meat — and the app tracks each one as receipts come in. No alerts, no nagging: the bars are just there when you look, and the ones running hot are obvious.

Read on your iPhone. Stored in your iCloud.

Your receipts are read on your phone and stay in your own iCloud. There's no server of ours, no account to make, no analytics, nothing handed to anyone else — we couldn't see your shopping if we wanted to, because there's no path for it to travel. And it's yours to take with you: back everything up to a file, export your history as a spreadsheet, restore it on a new phone. Put Face ID on the app if you'd rather it stayed shut.

Nobody actually knows what they spend on groceries

01 / THE SUPERMARKET APPS
One shop at Coles, one at Woolworths, an ALDI run for the basics, a top-up at IGA on the way home, an online order from whoever's delivering free this week, a run to the Asian grocer for the good spices. Different shops, different people from the same household, different weeks. The supermarket apps each see their own slice and none of them see the rest.

02 / YOUR BANK
Your bank can't help either — it sees a merchant total, not the trolley. Laundry powder, a phone charger and a gift card all land under 'groceries', and a delivery through Uber Eats or DoorDash doesn't look like groceries at all.

03 / GROCERYLENS
GroceryLens doesn't care where you shopped. Every receipt you scan goes into one place — every shop, whoever did the shopping — and you finally get the real picture.

From docket to dinner, in five steps

Step 1

Scan any receipt

Point your camera at a docket — or bring one in from Photos, Files or a PDF. GroceryLens reads it on your iPhone and hands it back itemised: every line, the total, and where the money actually went.

Step 2

Check it, fix it, save it

Every item, weight and unit price laid out for review. Correct anything before it lands in your ledger. Receipts shared or imported from elsewhere wait in a review queue until you approve them.

Step 3

Your pantry keeps itself

Perishables drop into your pantry with a rough freshness window, and the app nudges you before things turn — a reminder, not an asserted expiry date. Dates you enter are treated as fact; the app's own estimates never are, and you can set your own expiry date on any pantry item.

My Usuals

And the things you buy every week live in My Usuals — add them once and they stay. Tap one to send it to the list, and if it's an item the app has seen enough times, it tells you what you usually pay for it and where.

Apple Reminders

Running low on something? Send it from the pantry straight to your shopping list in Apple Reminders — so whoever's at the shops has it, including anyone you've shared the list with.

Step 4

Meals Idea from what is about to expire

On supported iPhones, Apple Intelligence suggests a recipe from what you actually have — flagging what's about to go off, and the little you'd still need. Generated on your device. "Waste Less"

Step 5

Ask where the money went

Ask, in plain English, where your money went this month — even from outside the app, using Siri — and get the answer from your own receipts, with the exact breakdown. And when it doesn't know, it says so.

Useful on day one. More useful every week.

DAY ONEIt works from the first receipt.Scan your first shop and it comes back itemised — every line, the total, and where the money actually went. Perishables drop into your pantry with a rough freshness window, so the app can nudge you before the spinach turns. Ask it, in plain English, where your money went this month, and get an answer from your own receipt. No history required.

Widget - Put it on your home screen and it tells you what's about to go off and what the week has cost, without opening anything.

THE BUILD-UPKeep scanning, and the picture fills in.A week-by-week trend, a sharpening category split, pantry reminders that start firing. Where the price insight will live, the app shows you honest progress — how many items it is tracking, and how close each is to its first comparison. It never shows a placeholder number, and it never pretends to know something it doesn’t.

The split goes deeper than categories — tap through and you get what's inside each one, milk against cheese against yoghurt. And Basket Mix answers the question underneath all of it: how much of the shop was staples, and how much was treats.

Got a shoebox of dockets or emailed receipts from the last few months? Scan them — the app reads the date off each one, and your history starts from there, not from today.

THE ONLY-YOU MOMENTYour price, at your shop, drifting from your normal.Once you have bought the same item at the same shop enough times for the comparison to be real, one line tells you how the whole receipt ran against your usuals — under or over, both directions, every figure traceable to the receipt it came from. Not cheapest anywhere. Not a stranger’s price.Tap it and you get the receipts behind it: the price line over time, the median it is comparing against, how many purchases that is based on — and every point opens the actual receipt it came from.

AFTER A FEW MONTHSIt knows what normal looks like — for you.The app knows, from your own receipts, what you normally pay for the things you normally buy, at the shops you actually use — and it tells you when that quietly changes. Instant, offline, private, and more accurate than any price looked up somewhere else, because it is what you actually paid."No looked-up price can be more accurate than the one you actually paid"

EVERY MONDAYA quiet weekly wrap-up.Once a week the app tells you what the last seven days cost, where it went, which cap you went over, what's about to expire, and any item that moved against your usual. Built on your phone, delivered as a notification — nothing emailed, nothing sent anywhere.

THE HONEST NOTEThe price insight is deliberately quiet at first. It waits until it has enough of your own purchases to be sure, because a number that might be wrong is worse than no number at all. Everything else works from your first receipt.

When it doesn't know, it says so.

THE OTHER LEAK

Australia bins the groceries it already paid for

Australian households throw away more than $1,500 of food a year (OzHarvest, 2025). The five most-binned categories — vegetables, leftovers, bakery, dairy and meat (OzHarvest, 2025) — are exactly the perishables GroceryLens watches. Do the arithmetic yourself: cut that waste by around 2%, and a year of GroceryLens has paid for itself. The rest is yours.GroceryLens keeps the score, honestly. As things leave your pantry, mark them used or binned, and the app tallies both — at the prices you actually paid, from your own receipts — with "used before it turned" as the number to grow. It always says how much of your pantry it has actually seen, and an unmarked item is never assumed either way.
